Needle Art Group of the Year 2007
Congratulations to all Needle Artists of Creston Valley Embroidery Guild, our group of the year for 2007.
This month, we would like to take a slightly different bend on our Needle Artist of the Month. Instead of singling out just one particular person, we would like to let everyone in on the Creston Valley Embroidery Guild’s year-end party.
We have over 30 members in our Guild, some you have already met in the Gallery and others that you haven’t, and they do change as the years go by. This year, as in past years, as many of us as possible got together at Anne Mann’s home and had a wonderful potluck lunch to celebrate the season. After a totally scrumptious meal, those of us that participated in making a hand-made ornament had an ornament exchange.
All the ornaments were in little brown paper bags and were passed around, unopened, one way then another way, with us playing a little game of musical chairs (sort of). When the music stopped, whoever was in front of the one chair got to sit down and open the bag they were holding. That was their “new” ornament from someone in the guild. Needless to say, as the ornaments were taken out of their bags, the ooh’s and aah’s that erupted from the ladies watching was incredible. The amount of work and talent that went into each and every ornament was awe-inspiring.
For those needle artists that have thought that felt ornaments and stockings didn’t warrant being called needlework, (and I was one of them at first), need to try making one. They are just as intricate to put together as any other needle art form. The amount of time needed to cut out the very tiny pieces and then to hand-sew the pieces together is considerable. Just one of the little Santa Claus ornaments (and he was only 5 inches tall) took well over 6 hours to make. So, our hats are off to all the felt ladies and their kits. You do an awesome job and the work is beautiful.
We had all sorts of different ornaments this year as in past years. There were cross-stitch ornaments, beaded ornaments, felt ornaments and others we just can’t describe. Just have a look at them all. They are wonderful!
All of us here at Victorian Cottage Treasures would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who visited our website and our store this past year. We hope that you and your families have a safe, healthy and prosperous New Year.
